Safety first, documentation second
Secure the scene of the accident, check whether anyone is injured, and only then start collecting information. Documentation matters, but never before the safety of those involved.
What to record at the scene
The record you make at the scene of the accident carries the entire claims process afterwards.
- Details of the parties involved, the vehicles and the insurance policies.
- Photographs of the vehicles' position, the damage and the surrounding area.
- Witness details, where available.
- The official record number if the police attended.
Reporting the claim
Report the claim within the period set out in your policy and keep a copy of the entire report. If you are unsure of the procedure for your policy, check it before reporting the claim.
